Ambitious young people who have faced financial barriers in achieving their dream of going to university and becoming a solicitor will benefit from £1,715 which was raised at a recent quiz night held to raise funds.

The fundraiser, held at Akva in Edinburgh in aid of the Lawscot Foundation, was attended by over 100 people who put their brainpower to the test, with a team from RBS taking first prize.

The charity is currently supporting 17 legal students with a bursary and mentoring support and is hoping to take on an additional 8 students this year. Despite very challenging circumstances everyone supported by the Foundation has achieved outstanding academic success.

Darren Kerr from the Lawscot Foundation said, “We want to thank everyone for coming along to the quiz night and the support they have shown us. The money raised will go towards funding the legal education of students from less-advantaged backgrounds.

“We received some incredible support from local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle and would like to thank AKVA, Meg Maitland, Lockett Bros, North Berwick distillery, Scottish Seabird Centre, MILK Edinburgh, La p’tite folie and Pinsent Masons.”
