About us

Our vision is a future where financial barriers do not hinder aspiring legal professionals from achieving their educational and career goals in Scotland.

Our purpose is to help talented people study Scots law

We were set up by the Law Society of Scotland in 2016 as part of their work on ‘fair access to the legal profession’.

We’re here to help students facing socio-economic barriers on their legal journey. Lawscot Foundation scholars are awarded £3000 per academic year, over the course of their LLB and the Diploma (DPLP). We also support students with a positive transition to university education through our mentoring programme and a range of career development events. This is more than helping people pursue a legal career, the Foundation supports students throughout their academic journey and beyond to their future career destinations.

We all want the best talent entering the legal profession, and the Lawscot Foundation is here to help talented students access the profession who may have struggled otherwise. The legal profession will be all the richer for it.

Some of our former students have completed their traineeship and are now fully qualified solicitors. In the years to come we will continue to see more and more Foundation scholars entering the profession, who have benefitted from the support the Foundation offers, which wouldn't be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and individual contributors.

Our trustees

Our trustees are volunteers and members of the Lawscot Foundation Board. They help us to set out our strategy and offer advice on achieving our charity goals.
