Our trustees are volunteers and members of the Lawscot Foundation Board. They help us to set out our strategy and offer advice on achieving our charity goals. Our trustees keep a check on our finances and activities and take overall legal responsibility for the charity. Our trustees have a wide range of experience across different professions.
Kay McCorquodale
Chair
Kay McCorquodale is a retired solicitor with over 30 years’ experience in both the private and public sectors.
As Executive Director, Kay led the Judicial Office for Scotland in supporting the Lord President in his role as head of the Scottish judiciary, assisting him in fulfilling his statutory responsibilities and maintaining judicial independence.
Kay has been a trustee of the Lawscot Foundation since 2023 and stepped into the role of Chair in May 2026. Having been educated at a comprehensive school in the North of Scotland and the first and only member of her family to attend university, Kay is passionate about championing social mobility and widening access to the legal profession.
Debbie McIlwraith Cameron
Vice-Chair
Debbie McIlwraith Cameron WS is a Director in the Charities and Third Sector team at Lindsays, bringing extensive experience advising charities and voluntary organisations across Scotland.
She began practicing charity law during her traineeship in 2011, specialising in charity law in 2014, and has developed wide-ranging expertise, with particular strengths in constitutional reviews and updates, mergers and transactional matters, governance, regulatory compliance, and trustee training. She has a strong interest in the continued development of charity regulation to help shape best practice while supporting organisations that make a meaningful impact in their communities. Debbie is a member of the Charity Law Association and is an active member of the Model Documents Standing Committee.
Debbie joined the Lawscot Foundation as a Trustee in January 2024, having previously been involved in the establishment of the charity in 2016. In May 2026 Debbie stepped into the newly created role of Vice-Chair.
Ruth Crawford KC
Ruth called to the Bar in 1993. She was Second Standing Junior to the Scottish Ministers between 2002 and 2008. In 2008 Ruth took silk.
Ruth specialises in public and administrative law, planning and environment, public procurement and commercial dispute resolution and is recommended as a leading silk in those practice areas by Chambers.
Ruth regularly appears in Court and has had several appearances as silk in the Supreme Court and as junior in the House of Lords. She has acted in planning inquiries relating to large infrastructure projects. Ruth has appeared in the past as an Ad Hoc Advocate Depute.
Ruth was a member of the Access to Justice sub-committee of the Scottish Civil Justice Council between 2014 and 2020. She is a Board member of the National Library of Scotland; and Foursquare, an Edinburgh charity focussing on homelessness as well as on support for vulnerable women. Ruth was elected Treasurer of the Faculty of Advocates in February 2020. She currently chairs the Faculty’s Scholarship Committee and Finance Committee.
Jon Dye
Jon is an experienced finance and risk executive with over 20 years of experience. Having gained a degree in Mathematics from St Andrews University, Jon went on to work for the international accountancy firm PwC for ten years, working mainly with financial services clients.
Jon then joined the Clydesdale Bank, initially in Internal Audit and was latterly the Head of Financial Governance until 2011. Jon also served as Head of Finance for Citizens Advice Scotland between 2013 and 2016.
Jon is currently Head of Assurance for Heriot-Watt University, where he is responsible for all aspects of risk management for the university. Jon has been a trustee and officer of a number of local, national and international charities over 20 years and has a wealth of experience of the not-for-profit sector.
Lady Ross
Lady Ross (Morag Ross KC) is a judge in the Court of Session and the High Court of Justiciary. She studied at the University of Oxford and the University of Edinburgh. She began her legal career as a solicitor and then became an advocate in 2003. In the early part of her career, she was a part-time tutor in constitutional law at the University of Edinburgh. Between 2008 and 2016 she served as a standing junior to the Scottish Ministers. She took silk in 2016. As an advocate, she practised predominantly in public law, and often in matters with EU law dimensions.
Over the years, she has served as a trustee for a number of charities. Whilst at the bar, she was involved in providing training for devils, in particular in judicial review, and in coordinating and overseeing the mentoring programme for devils and newly-called advocates.
Lindsay Jack
Lindsay is the Law Society's Head of Diversity, Careers, and Outreach, and joined the Law Society in June 2024 from Edinburgh Law School where she was Director of Student Experience. With expertise across widening participation, social mobility, diversity, and inclusion, Lindsay has vast experience working with a range of audiences from primary school pupils to the top levels of the legal profession and beyond.
Lindsay is an award-winning equity and inclusion practitioner with over 20 years' experience in widening participation. She is passionate about making meaningful change across the legal profession, and in addition to being a Trustee of LawScot Foundation, she is a Non-Executive Board Member of Disabling Barriers Scotland.
Morag McNeill
Morag is a non-practising member of the Law Society. She was a partner for fourteen years with McGrigors (now part of Pinsent Masons) specialising in corporate law. She then spent seven years as General Counsel with Forth Ports PLC a FTSE 250 company. In 2012 she began to build a portfolio of non-executive directorships across a broad range of private, public and third sector organisations. Her previous roles include Vice-Chair of Port of Aberdeen, Vice-Chair of Social Investment Scotland and Chair of Heriot-Watt University. She is currently Chair of The Robertson Trust, Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited and Scottish Event Campus Limited.
Ally Thomson
Ally has been a trustee since 2023.
He is the Director of Hey Legal which helps smaller law firms use technology and a Senior Tutor in Legal Innovation and Technology at the University of Glasgow Law School.
Paul Cook
Paul is a former Lawscot Foundation scholar and has been a trustee since 2023.
Heather McKendrick
Heather is a CSR Manager at Addleshaw Goddard and has been a trustee since 2023.
