For this year’s Christmas fundraising campaign, we’re encouraging everyone to reflect on what support has meant to you throughout your career. There are stages for all of us when we have needed someone’s help, perhaps as a listening ear, wise mentor or committed cheerleader. All those things add up to get us to where we are today.

By buying a bauble this year, you will not only support our fantastic Lawscot Foundation students to build their early careers, but you will also honour those who have helped you by dedicating your bauble to them. As well as adding one to our tree, we’ll send you a digital bauble complete with your message of thanks, which you can send on and share online.

Gavin McEwan, Trustee of the Lawscot Foundation and Partner at Turcan Connell, visited the Law Society's offices to kick-off Baublefest by sharing his story of thanks. "I want to thank my grandparents, Chris and Bob Adams, to acknowledge what an instrumental role they played in me becoming a lawyer. Every week from when I was born, they put a very small amount of cash into a savings account for me to use when I was older. Little by little the small contributions grew to make a massive difference and ultimately paid for my Diploma, which I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise.

It's been a real privilege to meet some of our students and hear them speak so warmly about their mentors and the peer support they receive from other students. But underpinning all of this is the £2500 bursary that really gives students access to opportunities they deserve. I hope the profession will be generous in supporting Baublefest this year."

Isla Gordon, supported by the Lawscot Foundation and currently in her second year at the University of Dundee, has been enthusiastic to be part of the campaign launch to express her thanks. She said: “The Lawscot Foundation has benefited me tremendously as I progress through my law degree. My mentor Claire has provided me with invaluable support and help through my time at University. Without Claire I would not have been able to make the huge improvements I have made during my degree in my literacy skills and legal writing techniques. Claire has helped me understand the path to qualification past undergraduate and Claire's support has been a huge comfort during my often-stressful degree and I always feel like I have someone to talk to and who can help. I owe so much to Claire and the Lawscot Foundation, they have done such amazing work.”

We aim to fill up our tree and raise a massive £2500 as well as lots of awareness through this campaign. Follow us at @Lawscotcharity and at #Baublefest to stay up to date with our progress.
